I've been dealing this as well.

I adore Wicca, but the community has it's problems. I also adore Satanism.

'Twould be wonderful if they could be meshed openly, and I could speak of Satan as openly as I do of Hades and of Lucifer as openly as the other Hellenic gods.

Frankly it stinks.

Naturally, I forgot to mention your insensitive use of the word "bipolar," which I very much should have addressed first!

I am no SJW, but calling anyone's beliefs or they themselves "bipolar" is disgusting. Not even gonna state why.

You leave comments like this on every site you comment on!

Just what is your deal?

Theistic Satanists believe one or more of several things: Satan is the All, or an impersonal Source, Satan is the only Deity (sometimes referred to as Set or Enki, sometimes a combination of monotheism and polytheism, other times one or the other), equated with Lucifer in His lighter aspect (also viewed as separate from Lucifer by some), and finally there are some explicitly Gnostic (these, in the event of theistic Satanist or Luciferians, are the only ones I'm aware of that include anhthing remotely like mainstream "Christianity," and they are outright opposed to the current paradigm - * they are also THE RAREST FORM OF SATANIST and do NOT worship some "demigod.")

You show zero knowledge of actual Satanism, atheistic or otherwise, and since you show ignorance that you MUST share on multiple sites that borders on bigotry ("demigod," really? I know that is an insult, even if the others here who are not Satanic do not), and refuse to stop, even after being downvoted to oblivion on Reddit, and because others who may be i interested in Satanism may read this... AND because you've gotten on my last nerve after seeing you post these kinds of things week after week, I'm responding.

Now that I addressed this, it's over and I'm moving on. You can continue your vendetta against Satanism here if the mod allows, and your open vendetta against Christianity elsewhere (let's be honest, even the comment I'm replying to is against Chistianity in your mind), but I'm finished with you.

Even non-Christians work with and/worship the Christian patheon, and that should be respected - even though to many Satan is considered to be an older deity and outside of Christianity (which if you'd bothered to look it up before your smear campaign, you'd know this).

He is not a "demigod" in ANY Satanic tradition I know of. SMH. Even the atheistic Satanists view him as an archetype! Where is this "demigod" nonsense?

My biggest complaint about Satanists is their choice to name themselves as followers of a Christian demigod even though many claim not to even believe in said Christian demigod. At best, that's bipolar.

The extremes Bonewits went to in order to distance paganism in general (not just Wicca) from Satanism included blatant lies about the nature of his association with the Church of Satan, the repeated implication that all Satanists were neo-fascists and/or dangerous psychopaths, utterly dishonest definitions of Satanism that Bonewits himself concocted in order to support his claims, lamenting the fact that US law didn't permit pagan stores to deny service to people simply for being Satanists, and calling for pagans to make efforts to exclude Satanists from pagan events simply for being Satanists. This was specifically what Satanists were upset about, not just the fact that he was trying to distance paganism and Satanism. Just thought I'd mention this, just in case anyone misunderstood and thought it was the distancing of the two that was objected to.

Excellent article. As a young adult, I fell in with a delightful, motley crew of Satanists and Atheists. It was rather a formulative experience, rather shaming me out of my own fluffiness. I will always treasure the friendships I had then.

I can say though, I am thinking of going back to Wicca, since I started it over ten years. This site has helped me a lot and reading the admin's posts about her not wanting to identify as one because of some of the fluffiness, has got me thinking..... I more Wiccan than anything else. So, I will probably go back to it. Thanks. :)

I just realized I can't log into FB and post here for some reason because it eats my post, oddly. That's ok, I'll rewrite what I was gonna say here.

I started out in Wicca, but nowadays I am just an eclectic witch. I am however, a modern philosophical Satanist now. There are definitely similarities between the material and Wicca's because as you said, they pretty much have the same roots. I am not an atheist though. Just a polytheist and I belong to the Aztec religion, you could say, with that.

I wish this covered theistic Satanist, because they also use pagan gods and can be considered on the umbrella of paganism. Same with philosophical or LaVeyian Satanists. I am really tired of pagans excluding Satanists, not just Wiccans. Even Witchvox does it. Whenever I am around fellow pagans for this reason, unless I know they're cool, I just exclude the Satanist part. I agree with you that a lot of Wiccans need to put on their big girl panties about it and be more mature on the subject of Satanist.

One of the early New York City Pagan Pride Day events had a sole protester - a Satanist protesting their choice of the late Isaac Bonewitz as the main speaker, because he had gone to such extremes to distance Wicca from Satanism.
